Goodness it has been a while, since I’ve posted! I’m feeling a smidgen rusty, but I would like to tell you about two very special events I was honored to be a part of this week-end in a two part posting.

First, on Friday May 21, 2010 the Illinois Army National Guard’s 139th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment arrived back on American soil. I’m so very blessed to work with the American Red Cross, Service to Armed Forces Unit, and assisted with Friday’s welcoming home activities.

Anticipation of their arrival could be felt all morning as their spouse and loved ones arrived on base and waited. Updates of their arrival began to spread when they were told that the plane had safely landed, and they were now just hours from returning to the base.

Children colored posters of welcoming and silently played as they too were anxious to be in the arms of their Dad’s, Mom’s or siblings who had been stationed overseas for a year. It was now just minutes before they would be safe in their arms again.

As the bus pulled onto the base and weaved it’s way to their finally destination the feeling of joy, honor, and patriotism could not be contained as we all awaited the door of that bright red bus to open. The sun shined brightly as it was escorted to the base by an awesome group of Veterans on motorcycles.

As the door opened cheers and clapping of joy rang out as these men and women were now safely home on American soil. I was touch by an interview that one of the unit members gave. She simple said, “there in nothing better than the smell of fresh cut grass.”

Loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personnel courage allows us our freedom. These men and women are truly American Heroes! So the next time you smell freshly cut grass remember our troops abroad. For it is just but one of the littlest of things that they give up serving our country!

My niece, wrote a quick note on her face book tonight. I just had to share it. This is how her conversations went with our great nephew, Christopher, her son. He is a delight, as well as, her daughter. (Miss Katie)

She writes:

“Working overtime, called home to check on my babies it went something like this Christopher~hi mom so how was your day at work Me~ good how about you Him~ oh pretty good got in a bit of trouble for disrupting class but there’s always tomorrow huh mom?!”

Got to love it! Always tomorrow!

I feel a little weathered today!

… SHARPLY COLDER WEATHER ON SATURDAY WITH SOME SNOW…

A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL PUSH THROUGH CENTRAL ILLINOIS TONIGHT BRINGING AN END TO THE MILD TEMPERATURES OF THE PAST SEVERAL DAYS. HIGHS THIS AFTERNOON HAVE SOARED INTO THE MID 60S BUT THAT WILL BE REPLACED BY 35 TO 40 DEGREE TEMPERATURES ON SATURDAY. ALONG WITH THE MUCH COLDER TEMPERATURES MOVING IN OVER THE NEXT 24 HOURS… A WEATHER DISTURBANCE WILL BRING SOME SNOW TO AREAS ALONG AND WEST OF THE ILLINOIS RIVER… WHERE 1 TO 2 INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE DURING THE DAY. LESS THAN AN INCH IS EXPECTED EAST OF THE ILLINOIS RIVER. SNOWFALL TOTALS WILL BE A BIT HEAVIER OVER PARTS OF EASTERN IOWA… NORTHEAST MISSOURI AND EXTREME WESTERN ILLINOIS WHERE UP TO 4 INCHES OF WET SNOW WILL BE POSSIBLE IN A FEW LOCATIONS.

SEVERAL FACTORS SHOULD KEEP SNOWFALL TOTALS DOWN ACROSS OUR AREA ON SATURDAY. THE FIRST BEING AIR TEMPERATURES WILL BE ABOVE FREEZING DURING THE DAY AND SECONDLY… THE TWO INCH SOIL TEMPERATURES WILL BE IN THE UPPER 30S TO LOWER 40S IN THE AREAS THAT ARE EXPECTING THE ACCUMULATING SNOWS. AREA ROADWAYS SHOULD REMAIN MOSTLY WET WITH ONLY SECONDARY ROADS AND SOME BRIDGE DECKS BEING AFFECTED BY THE WET SNOW. A NORTHEAST WIND GUSTING AS HIGH AS 35 MILES PER HOUR AT TIMES WILL MAKE IT FEEL EVEN COLDER OUTSIDE ON SATURDAY. QUITE A CONTRAST TO THE WEATHER WE HAD THIS AFTERNOON.

Peter, meet Liz. Come with me. Lets take a little trip!

Today, I would like to tell you about two very special people Liz and Peter. First, let me say I know what Liz looks like. I see her often I know how she talks, her laughter, her facial expressions and about her family. I only know Peter by a photo on his blog. Our relationship could be described more like the movie, Jumping Jack Flash. Perhaps some day I might hear his voice. Enjoy his laughter, and even talk with him.

Peter does not know Liz. However, they have something very real in common, both have cancer. Yes, they were both whisked off too Cancerland, as Peter so eloquently describes in his blog. Which I encourage you to read.

Liz, landed in the metropolis called Thyroid. Which is near Esophagus, and is where Peter is located. Which I understand he has been taken in plenty of fluids, that oddly are infused from a bag which hangs upside down. While Liz, is now sequestered after received a small tablet just today that will bestow in her a strong radiant glow for several days.

One of my favored aphorisms, of which I have several, is, “I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.”

Now, at fifty, one would think that I had that all figured out. But, I seem to be following more in a direction similar to that of Colonel Sanders and Clara Barton. Whom both, in their mid-sixties, started brilliant successful business, so I maintain there is hope for me yet.

I’m leaning towards a sailor, or a captain of a ship. I adore the water.

Our pool here on Main Street will soon be open, and you will find me on my comfy boat raft drifting from one end to the other. For there I feel comfort and one with life.

So come and sailing with me. I hope that you will feel peace, tranquility and believe that all things are possible.
